Akki rotti or plain rice flour roti recipe explained with step by step pictures. This akki rotti is a very simple version of rice flour roti. It is prepared using very minimum ingredients like water, salt and rice flour. This akki rotti or rice flour roti is very popular across Malnad and Coord region of Karnataka. This roti is popular by different names like ukkarisida rotti, ubbu rotti, coorgi rotti, rice bhakri, chawal ki roti etc.,

You need to be little expert to make these rotis perfect, just like jolada rotti or jowar roti and plain ragi rotti. The important thing in this recipe is dough consistency and kneading. Better you need, easy to make the rotis. You can serve these rotis with any spicy curries like badanekayi ennegayi (stuffed brinjal), zunka (gram flour curry), Hesaru kalu gojju, Veg kurma, Aloo gobi and menthe palle (methi dal).

In Malnad and Coorg region of Karnataka, there are 2 types of akki rotti recipes are in practice. The first one is the plain rice flour roti, prepared using rice flour. And the second one is prepared using leftover rice and rice flour. These rice rotis will turnout soft and crisp. I have made a video on this recipe, which I have embedded it below. Akki rotti or plain rice flour roti recipe

Preparation time: 10 min
Cooking time: 15 min
Serves: 8 no

Ingredients: (measuring cup used = 240ml)

  1. 1 cup rice flour
  2. 1.25 - 1.5 cup water (depends on rice flour quality)
  3. Salt as per your taste
  4. 1/2 tsp cooking oil

Instructions for making akki rotti or plain rice flour roti:

  1. To prepare ukkarisida akki rotti or plain rice flour roti, first take water, salt and oil in a pan and keep it for boiling. If you are not sure about rice flour quality, use 1 cup of water and 1 cup of rice flour.   7. Heat the tava or pan and transfer the rolled rotti or roti over the hot pan. Apply water on the roti using a clean and wet cloth.   9. Alternately, you can cook the roti directly over the flame. To do that, first cook the rotis over the pan for small duration and then transfer it directly over the flame, cook on both sides.
