If you’re looking for the best guacamole recipe, you found it! This makes a big batch that’s perfect for a crowd! The Best Guacamole Recipe-Ever! (1)

Is it bold to call this the best guacamole ever? Yes.

I have no problem being bold here because in my opinion this IS the best guacamole ever. I’ve had authentic guacamole countless times on our many Mexico trips and this recipe remains my favorite.

I’ve been making it since 2010 (when I first published the recipe) and every time I make it for a crowd I get asked for the recipe. Everyone loves it!

If you’re looking for an easy guacamole recipe without all the add-ins like tomatoes and onions, try this simple guacamole recipe. It’s the one I make when I’m in a rush or just want some guac with lunch!

Otherwise, the recipe below is just what you need. You’re going to be so happy you made this.

Recipe Ingredients–What You Need

The Best Guacamole Recipe-Ever! (2)

It’s these simple ingredients that make the perfect guacamole. There’s no secret ingredient or anything out of the ordinary, just fresh ingredients. But it’s pure magic when they come together with the ratios of the recipe!

6 Ripe Avocados

I use medium to large avocados for my guacamole. You want ripe, but not overripe avocados for this recipe.

2 limes, juiced

Keep your limes at room temperature to get the most juice from them. I use a citrus juicer which also helps. Fresh lime juice is a must!

4 Roma tomatoes, chopped

Roma tomatoes are smaller and have a lower water content, making them perfect for guacamole dip. You CAN leave these out of your guacamole if you prefer. I like the addition of tomatoes, but my husband, Tim, much prefers his guacamole without tomatoes.

1/2 cup finely chopped white onion

I typically use white onion for this recipe, but red onion will work as well. Make sure your onion is finely chopped for the best texture.

1/2 cup fresh chopped cilantro

There’s no such thing as good guacamole without fresh cilantro. Fact!

2 teaspoons chopped garlic

I like the added flavor garlic brings to guacamole and it also had medicinal qualities. If you’re opposed to garlic in guacamole it’s okay to leave this one out. Authentic Mexican doesn’t have garlic and many think it competes with the other flavors. It’s personal preference!

2 teaspoons salt

You can’t be stingy with the salt. This brings out the flavor of all the ingredients! Remember, this is a large batch of guacamole, so it’s not as much as it may seem.

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Just the smallest amount is all you need for a very subtle heat. This guacamole isn’t spicy at all, but you can leave this out if you prefer. Another option is to add jalapeño pepper, but it’s not my preference.

How to Make the Best Guacamole

The Best Guacamole Recipe-Ever! (3)

  1. If you have a Molcajete, use it to mash the avocados and lime juice. If not, a large bowl and potato masher or fork works just fine.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients (tomatoes, onion, cilantro, garlic, salt, and cayenne pepper). Stir until everything is evenly incorporated.
  3. Serve immediately with crunchy tortilla chips .

FAQS

Is this an authentic guacamole recipe?

This homemade guacamole recipe is one of my absolute favorite foods, but it isn’t considered 100% authentic. In Mexico, you won’t find garlic in guacamole.

What is the easiest way to ripen firm avocados?

To speed up the ripening process , place each avocado in a brown paper bag with another piece of fruit such as an apple, banana, or kiwi fruit. Fold the top of the bag to close it to outside air.

Is guacamole healthy?

I always say that healthy is a relative term, but there’s no arguing that guacamole is, indeed, a healthy food! Avocados are loaded with healthy fats, dietary fiber, as well as folate, magnesium, potassium. vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, and C.

How can I keep my leftover guacamole from turning brown?

My best tip is to save the pits from your avocados, and place them on top of the guacamole dip. Cover the surface of the guacamole with a piece of plastic wrap and push down so there are no air pockets, and then cover in your airtight container. This is the only time I recommend using plastic wrap on my blog!

Can I use lemon juice instead of lime juice?

No, this just won’t be the same with lemon juice. If you’re looking for a lemony dip, try this Lemon-Lime Hummus.
