Tickets are still available for Lollapalooza, the four-day music festival that’s returning to Chicago’s Grant Park for the 15th year. Here are some tips on how to plan your weekend:

Time and date: 11 a.m. (gates open) – 10 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 4.

Location: Grant Park.

Entrances: Festivalgoers are encouraged to activate their wristband at lollapalooza.com/wristband to ensure “quick and easy festival entry.” Besides the main festival entrance, there is a north entrance at Columbus Drive and Monroe Street. Security guards will check bags before entry, and attendees are subject to metal detector screenings and full-body pat-downs. Passholders can enter the festival three times per day, and must scan their wristband when they exit.

What about tickets?

Box office: Will be open at the intersection of Ida B. Wells Drive (formerly Congress Parkway) and Michigan Avenue starting July 31 and continuing throughout the festival weekend. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 4. A valid government-issued photo ID must be presented in order to pick up tickets.

Upgrade: Wristband upgrades to GA+, VIP or Platinum can be purchased in the Upgrade Tent near Buckingham Fountain.

General admission tickets:

  • Single-day: ($158.95 after service charges; increasing to $166.95 on Aug. 1)

  • Four-day: Sold out

  • General admission tickets are still available for Thursday, Friday and Sunday. These tickets are sold out for Saturday, but people can buy and sell passes via an official ticket exchange at ticketexchangebyticketmaster.com.

GA+ tickets:

  • Single-day: ($266.91; increasing to $279.91 on Aug. 1)

  • Four-day: ($747.32; increasing to $767.32 on Aug. 1)

  • GA+ ticketholders have access to shade and seating in two private lounges near Buckingham Fountain, complimentary water and soft drinks and other perks. Single-day GA+ passes are sold out for Saturday but available via the official ticket exchange at ticketexchangebyticketmaster.com.

VIP passes:

Platinum passes:

  • Single-day: ($2,215; increasing to $2,275 on Aug. 1)

  • Four-day: ($4,641; increasing to $4,767 on Aug. 1)

  • Platinum passes include access to climate-controlled platinum lounges; premium viewing areas in front of five stages; on-stage viewing at two main stages; and golf cart transportation from a special festival entrance to the lounges and viewing areas.

Getting to Grant Park

Public transportation: Extra service and capacity will be provided throughout the weekend. Use the Regional Transportation Authority’s Trip Planner tool to map your route. It’s recommended passengers purchase tickets ahead of time or through the Ventra app to avoid long lines.

Chicago Transit Authority and getting there by “L”: The CTA plans to provide longer trains on the Green, Brown, Orange and Blue lines and more frequent service on the Red, Brown, Orange, Blue and Yellow lines. Here’s a guide to service changes due to Lollapalooza. Concertgoers can purchase a seven-day pass for $28, a three-day pass ($20) or a one-day pass ($10).

  • From the Brown, Orange, Pink and Green lines: Exit at Adams/Wabash or Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren (Brown, Orange and Pink lines only).

  • From the Blue Line: Exit at Monroe, Jackson or LaSalle.

  • From the Red Line: Exit at Monroe, Jackson or Harrison.

Metra: There are 11 train lines and five stations located near Grant Park. Metra is planning extra service on its BNSF Railway, Milwaukee District North, Milwaukee District West, Rock Island District, Union Pacific North, Union Pacific Northwest and Union Pacific West lines. A special two-day pass for travel on Thursday and Friday is available for $10 (increasing to $15 on Aug. 1) at ticket windows and through the Ventra app. Metra’s $10 Weekend Pass, also available through the Ventra app, offers unlimited rides Saturday and Sunday. No alcohol will be allowed aboard Metra trains after 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday. It is likely bicycles will not be accommodated on trains on festival days because of anticipated crowds.

Buses: CTA will post signs directing Metra passengers arriving at Union and Ogilvie stations which buses will provide service to Grant Park. Several additional bus routes will take passengers to Lollapalooza and others will be rerouted due to the festival.

Ride-share and taxis: Pickup and drop-off locations will be near the gates at Ida B. Wells Drive and Michigan Avenue, or Columbus Drive and Monroe Street.

Bike: Bringing your own bike? Park and lock it just south of the main entrance at Ida B. Wells Drive and Michigan Avenue. Renting one? Divvy’s valet service will be at Michigan Avenue and Jackson Boulevard from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day of the festival.

Parking: No parking is available on festival grounds. Millennium Garages’ four underground locations offer discounted online parking packages for purchase in advance of festival weekend.

Accessible drop-off and pickup location: Monroe Street at Columbus Drive.

Road closures

Lake Shore Drive or State Street can be used as alternate routes around the festival crowds and closures. Traffic control aides will be deployed to facilitate traffic around the area.

  • Jackson and Balbo drives: Between Columbus and Lake Shore drives.

Closed Monday, July 29 through Monday, Aug. 5

  • Jackson Drive: Michigan Avenue east to Columbus Drive.
  • Balbo Drive: Michigan Avenue east to Columbus Drive.
  • Ida B. Wells Drive: Michigan Avenue east to Columbus Drive.
  • Columbus Drive: Monroe Street south to Roosevelt Road.
  • Columbus Drive northbound (two center lanes): 13th Street north to Roosevelt.

Closed Tuesday, July 30 to the morning of Monday, Aug. 5

  • Monroe Street eastbound: Columbus Drive to Lake Shore Drive.

Closed Thursday, Aug. 1 through Sunday, Aug. 4

In case of evacuation: There are four designated emergency exits along Michigan Avenue and one along Monroe Street. In the event of an evacuation, attendees are encouraged to take shelter inside one of Millennium Garages’ underground parking garages:

  • Grant Park North Garage, 25 N. Michigan Ave.

  • Grant Park South Garage, 325 S. Michigan Ave.

  • Millennium Lakeside Garage, 5 S. Columbus Drive.

Allowed at Lollapalooza

  • Small bags, purses, totes and drawstring bags are the only bags allowed into the festival grounds. See illustration for more details. No backpacks or bags with multiple pockets allowed.

  • Lockers: Can be reserved in advance for $20 each day or $60 for four days at entertainmentlockers.com, as of press time. The lockers are about 13 inches tall, 11 inches wide and 18 inches deep and come with a universal cellphone charger.

  • Empty hydration packs and plastic or aluminum water bottles: Must be emptied of all liquid and have no more than two pockets in addition to the one holding the water reservoir. Maximum size is 36 ounces.

  • Sealed sunscreen lotion: No aerosol containers allowed.

  • Blankets, sheets, ponchos and towels

  • Basic, point-and-shoot cameras: No detachable lenses or other accessories — including monopods, selfie sticks and tripods — allowed. GoPro cameras are allowed without accessories.

  • Binoculars

  • Strollers

  • Prescription medication: Must be in a pharmacy-labeled container. Patrons are only allowed a medication supply sufficient for that day.

Leave these at home

Passholders can no longer bring factory-sealed bottles of water, as in years past.

  • No large bags purses, totes: See illustration above for more details.

  • No outside food, beverages and coolers: Including alcohol of any kind. Glass containers prohibited.

  • No cigarettes, e-cigs or vaping devices: Chicago Park District policy.

  • No professional audio, photo and/or video equipment and accessories: Any camera with a detachable lens is prohibited. No video recording allowed. No monopods, selfie sticks, tripods or GoPro mounts allowed.

  • No drones: Or any other remote flying devices.

  • No chairs of any kind, inflatable furniture, hammocks, umbrellas, tents or canopies: Shade structures of any kind are prohibited.

  • No modes of transportation: Includes skateboards, scooters, bicycles, wagons, carts and personalized motorized vehicles. Bikes can be parked for free near the festival entrance at Ida B. Wells Drive and Michigan Avenue.

  • No drugs, drug paraphernalia, illegal or illicit substances of any kind.

Staying cool

Dealing with the heat: Cooling stations are located around the festival grounds. Cooling buses are located by the medical tents on Balbo Drive and Jackson Drive.

Medical emergencies: There are six medical tents inside the park. Festivalgoers are encouraged to be honest with emergency personnel about any problems. Attendees experiencing sexual harassment should seek help from a Lollapalooza staff member or a medical tent employee.

Accessibility

Festival entrances: Use designated lanes for patrons with disabilities.

Access center: Located on Columbus Drive just west of Buckingham Fountain, this is where to get information for patrons with disabilities or sensory difficulties. American Sign Language interpreters will be provided for some of the musical performances. Specialty wristbands are available here for those with mobility impairments, sensory difficulties or those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Special access viewing areas: Available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Medically necessary materials and medication: One day supply in prescription-labeled bottles allowed. Please dispose of any medical waste and syringes in the proper disposal located inside one of the six medical tents on the festival grounds.

Kidzapalooza

Children 10 years old and younger will be admitted for free if their parent has a Lollapalooza pass. There is a limit of two children per adult. Children’s activities will be offered at Kidzapalooza, located southeast of Buckingham Fountain. The area will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

Patrons who lose items can visit guest services booths inside the park or file a claim at lolla.com/lostfound.

On Aug. 5, festivalgoers can be reunited with their matched lost and found items at the Lolla Pop-Up Shop, 224 S. Michigan Ave.
